Why can’t I find a primary care physician?
Why have I had 3 different primary care doctors in 3 years?
Physician burnout is a real issue in our current system, doctors are often pressured to spend only 10 minutes per patient. This leaves very little time to know our patients and often results in the equivalent of a second full time job doing insurance related paperwork when we get home.
Adding to the problem is the lack of real control, due to call center “efficiencies”, i.e. booking more patients into an already full schedule, and payment structures that penalize doctors for not hitting insurance company metrics convincing the maximum number of patients to have colonoscopies, diabetic eye exams, etc.
Your doctors all probably agree on the construct of preventative medicine, but your doctor shouldn’t be penalized because after an engaging conversation of risk and benefits you ultimately chooses not to have a test. The cherry on top that no one is talking about is the one size fits all approach to medicine we all saw first hand during the last 2 years.
The only solution to this problem is bringing back truly independent practices and providing physicians alternatives. Our longterm vision is to grow and franchise a family of independent providers that listen to your concerns and help you make the best decisions through data instead of coercion.
